Hello from Stacey

HELLO, FROM THE OUTERMOST SHORES OF CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS

In 2009, as a science teacher, I spent three weeks in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands as a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Teacher at Sea. I worked with scientists and hydrographers to survey uncharted waters off the coasts of three small, uninhabited islands—Wosnesenski, Ukolnoi, and Dolgoi. That's when I fell in love with nautical charts. Fast forward to 2019 when I started creating sweet little mixed media paintings of favorite Cape Cod coastal locations using authentic nautical charts as inspiration.

In the past, my work was featured at Cottage, a boutique in South Orleans, Cape Cod, Massachusetts-a gorgeous collection of art, ethically made clothing, vintage apparel, and home goods all carefully sourced and curated by owner, Aline Lindemann. I’ve also created fish for the 2023 and 2022 Cods for the Cape Art Auction to benefit local Cape Cod fishers through the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance.

The charts are painted on birchwood panels using acrylics. Details such as sounding depths, chart symbols, and outlines are added with graphite pencils. They are finished with lacquer which makes the colors and details pop and shine like the surface of the ocean.

Get in touch if you have a special request you would like to discuss. I would love to chart your favorite beach, coastline, or waterway. They make thoughtful gifts for weddings, housewarmings, or just because you want to treat yourself!

Cheers!

Stacey
